As part of the double celebration of Independence and Youth Day (1962–2025), as well as the National Child Day on July 15, auditorium in downtown Tlemcen hosted, on Monday, July 8, 2025, the proceedings of the national symposium entitled: “The Protection of Children in Light of Current and Future Changes.”
The event, organized by the National Federation for the Promotion of Children's Rights, was held under the high patronage of the Wali of Tlemcen, Mr. Youssef Bechlaoui, and under the supervision of Ms. Meriem Cherfi, National Commissioner for Child Protection. It was conducted under the slogan: “The Child… Guaranteed Rights in Victorious Algeria.”
This national gathering brought together a broad range of official and institutional representatives, including the President of the People's Provincial Assembly, members of both houses of Parliament, the National Commissioner for Child Protection, the Public Prosecutor at the Tlemcen Court, the local delegate of the Republic’s Mediator, members of the security commission, and the President of the National Federation for the Promotion of Children's Rights. Also in attendance were senior provincial officials, representatives of civil society and the media, along with a university delegation led by the Rector of the University of Tlemcen, Professor Mourad Meghachou.
The discussions focused on the social, economic, and cultural transformations taking place in Algerian society and their impact on children’s welfare. Participants stressed the urgent need for synergy between public institutions and civil society actors to strengthen mechanisms for protecting and promoting children’s rights, in line with the principles and aspirations of the New Algeria.
The symposium served as a space for constructive dialogue and exchange, reaffirming the shared commitment to making child protection a national priority, aligned with today’s challenges and tomorrow’s ambitions.
